The River Frome runs 25 miles from the edge of the Cotswold escarpment to where it joins the Severn. One of several Fromes (from the Old English ffraw, meaning swift or sparkling), over the last three years it has become for me a place of wonder and intimacy.
Rivers have taken an enormous hit from human activity. A partnership of governmental and charitable bodies, and local residents have begun meeting to talk about how we collectively protect our closest River, looking at how we can support biodiversity, improve fish migration. The text for this series was written inspired by intimacy with the beautiful River, with a thread of lament for the negative impact humans have had, but inviting us into a deeper relationship that fosters car, appreciation and kinship.
